I’ve tried all the various button combinations. iTunes tells me the phone has to be restored, which will obviously result in the loss of everything on the phone. I tried downloading an app (Tiny Umbrella) that looks like it was intended for the jailbreak community that says it will get it out of recovery mode without data loss. The app didn’t even launch correctly. Any ideas? It’s my son’s phone, and he’s pretty bummed.

Edit: the screen does not turn on, but iTunes sees it.

Both itunes and icloud backup were turned off?

It’s his phone, and I don’t know if iCloud backup was turned on or not. If not, then we’re screwed. It hasn’t been backed up to iTunes in forever.

I think if you log onto icloud on a desktop you can see the last backup date.

Looks like the backup was done. I’m wondering if it would be better to restore from the back up instead of using an outside software.

When I launch the app, it tells me to plug in the iOS device. It’s plugged in, and iTunes sees it because it tells me the phone is stuck in recovery mode and must be restored. I can click “Fix All iOS Stuck” and it tells me that iOS will update to the latest version when it’s done. I didn’t want to do that yet.

I’m not really sure tbh. I’ve only done resets going from jailbreak back to factory, never tried it with one stuck in recovery mode.

Okay. Thanks. It turns out that the phone was backed up to iCloud on Wednesday evening, so, theoretically, everything should be saved. I may just go ahead and restore through iTunes.

Hmm I don’t remember mine asking that. The one I was working with went into recovery mode when I updated to ios11. When I clicked “fix all iOS stuck” it gave me a successful message, then rebooted the phone and all was good. still on iOS 10
